Why Race Matters Workshop

November 3 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

30.00$

The Community Building, in partnership with Greater Spokane Progress, is hosting Why Race Matters Workshops to help our community identify how we can advance racial equity in our organizations and community.

The Why Race Matters Workshop, using the acclaimed 3-part documentary: “Race: The Power of an Illusion”:

  • examines the common assumptions about race
  • uncovers the roots of the race concept in North America, and
  • reveals how social institutions “make” race by channeling power to white people.

In this interactive workshop you will develop:

  • a collective understanding of the difference between structural, institutional, and individual racism and the difference between equity and equality,
  • examples of institutional racism within the Spokane Region, and
  • solutions and next steps together.

Registration fee including lunch and snacks:

  • $30 Per person (Please limit registration to 3 people per organization)
  • Scholarships are available on a case-by-case basis. To request, contact Anne at anne@spokaneprogress.org.

If you are a Community Building Tenant, click here to register.

The deadline to register is October 27.
