The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) was developed nationwide after 9/11 to create a cadre of pre-identified, credentialed, & trained volunteers to respond to medical emergencies in disaster situations. In such a crisis, Spokane would be required to be self-sufficient for three days prior to outside help arriving. The MRC would be able to curb the possible surge of medical emergencies in the ten counties of eastern Washington.
Nationwide there are 780 MRC units and 166,170 volunteers. The mission of the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC nationwide) is to improve the health and safety of communities across the country by organizing and utilizing public health, medical and other volunteers.
