Fundamentals of Performance: Practical Tools and Technique for Actors, Influencers, and Public Speakers

Join us in a weekly workshop series on the Fundamentals of Performance.  Each week our instructor Jeremey Catterton, will lead students through exercises focused on fundamental techniques.

This is a four week workshop beginning Tuesday, May 4, and continuing weekly through May 25, 2021.

7:00pm – 10:00pm each Tuesday in our downtown studio.

$200 for the full session – (Students can also purchase single classes as long as they are in chronological order. eg: attend Week 1 and Week 2, but not mix and matching sessions such as purchasing with Week 1 and Week 4 as these classes are progressive.  To purchase single week classes, please contact Maddie at 509-378-6517)

Course Topics:

• May 4, 2021: Introduction to Fundamentals.  Focusing on “nowness,” the master class will have hands-on group exercises that develop mindfulness and presence skills, and lay the groundwork for disciplining imagination and exercising the creative brain when approaching a written text.
• May 11, 2021: Fundamental Concepts in Practice.  Focusing on “receptivity,” the master class will have hands-on group and individual exercises to develop sensitivity to one’s self, the other, the room, and one’s partner. This will lay the groundwork for the application of fundamentals for performing with a written text.
• May 18, 2021: Fundamental Concepts at Work: – Focusing on the “job at hand,” the master class will have individual exercises and critical feedback to develop a sense of purpose and useful application of Performance Fundamentals in auditions, jobs, and day-to-day training for self-cultivation and sustainability.
• May 25, 2021: Show me the Fundies! – The Fundamentals of Performance cultivate into a video monologue audition that is suitable for one’s reel or for general audition submissions that will feature material chosen by the master class participant. Also, the session will conclude with a brief feedback session with constructive criticism for each participant.

About The Teacher:

Jeremey Catterton is a filmmaker, writer, educator, fine artist and active member of the SAG-AFTRA union.

In addition to being a working actor in New York City, from 2010-14 Catterton was a managing curator for Off-Broadway’s The Tank, to later become the President of Brooklyn’s Brick Theater (2015). Formed in Minneapolis, Jeremey was the founding artistic director of experimental theater company Lamb Lays with Lion (2007-16), as well as co-director of the UK theatre collective, Collision from (2005-07). After graduating from the Interlochen Arts Academy with an emphasis in theater, in 2004 Jeremey received his BFA in actor training from the Guthrie Theatre and University of Minnesota, to then later study post graduate work at Sarah Lawrence University/The Kitchen and Middlesex University, London for his MA in directing (2006). Also, he is a Taoist who breathes fire, plus the lyricist for Five Fingers Make a Fist.
