Two Milestones for Recovery Café Spokane in February
Spokane, Wash. — Recovery Café Spokane celebrates its two-year anniversary in Peaceful Valley in February. In 2017, the café transformed an abandoned city building into what is now a thriving center where people can maintain their recovery, reduce relapses, fulfill their potential and reclaim their lives.
“It is exciting to see how the café has grown in just two years,” said Georgia Butler, Director of Recovery Community Services at the café. “When we opened the doors, we had a handful of members. Today our membership is over 75,” Butler added.
The anniversary comes as the café is recognized as a full member of the Recovery Café Network, one of only three in the nation to receive the distinction in 2019. “We are honored to have earned this designation,” said Lee Williams, Executive Director of Community-Minded Enterprises, the parent organization of Recovery Café Spokane. “The café has impacted so many lives in a short amount of time. We look forward to the support offered by the network as the café continues to grow.” Williams added.
Recovery Café Spokane has been working for over a year to become a certified member of the Recovery Café Network. Earlier this year the café underwent an on-site evaluation, the final step in certification.
To become a full member of the Recovery Café Network, Recovery Café Spokane had to demonstrate its diligence in the following core commitments:
- Creating a community space that is drug and alcohol free, embracing, and healing
- Nurturing structures of loving accountability called Recovery Circles
- Empowering every member to be a contributor
- Raising up member leaders
- Ensuring responsible stewardship
The cafe is located at 214 North Cedar Street in Spokane. Visitors are always welcome.
