Hands Across the Falls Marks its 5th Year Celebrating Recovery with a Two-Week Event Adapting to Current Health Conditions

Spokane, Wash.  — Hands Across the Falls 2021, is poised for a two-week celebration kicking off September 17 and continuing through September 30.  “Same great event, same heart, same spirit, just packaged differently this year,” said Christine McMackin, Manager of Recovery Café Spokane.

After thoughtful consideration, the planning committee made the decision to shift the event from in-person to virtual. “The team looked at the data, and with a desire to keep everyone safe, decided it was best to celebrate recovery month in a socially distanced manner,” said Lee Williams CEO of Community-Minded Enterprises, the nonprofit home of the Café.

As part of the virtual celebration, Community-Minded Enterprises and Recovery Café Spokane encourage people to show their support by printing one of four downloadable signs and taking a picture with it. The signs include “I Support Recovery”, “I am Recovery”, “I Celebrate” and “I Remember”. The ‘remember’ and ‘celebrate’ signs are customizable so you can include the name of someone who is celebrating recovery or remember someone who had lost their battle to addiction.  Photos can be emailed to handscrossthefalls@community-minded.org for use on social media or posted to the Facebook event page Hands Across the Falls-2021

Again, this year the City of Spokane and the Spokane County Board of Commissions made proclamations in support of Recovery Month and Hands Across the Falls.  “We are so grateful to these city and county leaders for their support of this event and for joining us in celebrating recovery in our community,.” said McMackin.

Hands Across the Falls in its online form is supported by amazing community partners providing financial support. At the Platinum Level – Amerigroup, at the Gold Level – Community Health Plan of Washington, at the Silver Level – CHAS, Coordinated Care, Empire Health Foundation and YFA Connections and at the Bronze Level – Better Health Together, Oxford House and Spokane Regional Health District.
