Community-Minded ECEAP Granted Expansion from Department of Children, Youth, and Families

[Spokane Washington, 6/21/2023] – Community-Minded Early Childhood Education Assistance Program (ECEAP) is thrilled to announce that it has been granted an ECEAP Expansion from the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). This exciting development marks a significant milestone for Community-Minded ECEAP and its commitment to providing quality early childhood education and support to the local community.

Under the expansion, Community-Minded ECEAP will be opening two new locations to accommodate the growing demand for our services. One of the new locations will be situated in Peaceful Valley, offering 17 slots for preschool children ages 3-5, while the other will be located on the Lower South Hill, providing 18 slots. These additions are in addition to our existing Upper South Hill location, which currently offers 40 slots.

To facilitate this expansion, Community-Minded ECEAP has created seven new positions: Two lead teachers, two assistant teachers one aide, one ECEAP coordinator, and one Family Support Specialist. These dedicated professionals will work diligently to ensure the continued delivery of high-quality early childhood education and comprehensive support services to the children and families in our community.

An essential aspect of this expansion is the transition from contracting with Community Colleges of Spokane to receiving funding directly from DCYF. This change will streamline our operations and enhance our ability to serve the community effectively. By becoming a DCYF contractor, Community-Minded ECEAP will increase its capacity from 40 sub-contracted slots to an impressive 75 slots, further widening the reach of our programs and services.

Community-Minded ECEAP is immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our community partners. It is through their collaboration and shared vision that we can continue to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families. Together, we strive to provide an enriching educational experience that nurtures a lifelong love for learning.

Arrianne Maldonado, CME’s Associate Director of ECEAP and Family Services, expressed her enthusiasm about this achievement, stating, “A child’s first experience in the education system will impact their view on the importance of education throughout their life. This award allows the opportunity to provide developmentally and culturally inclusive materials that promote child-led exploration and learning opportunities.”
