Final Days for Child Care Providers and Families to apply for CARES Act Funding in Spokane County

Spokane, Wash.  — CARES Act funding is immediately available to cover the cost of child care for families and to help licensed child care programs in Spokane County. This is new funding available to families and child care businesses in Spokane County. Previous CARES Act funding distributed by Community-Minded Enterprises supported families and child care business in the City of Spokane.

“We are thrilled to be able offer this assistance,” said Kathy Blair, who is coordinating the effort for Community-Minded Enterprises. “We have a small window to get this money out to support families and child care providers, so we encourage anyone interested to apply as soon as possible.” Grants are awarded on a first come first serve basis, with the goal to get applications approved quickly.

Community-Minded Enterprises received $3.3 million dollars from Spokane County to help child care businesses facing increased costs due to COVID-19 and to cover the cost of child care tuition so parents could return to work or continue to work.

Grant awards for child care businesses start at $1,000 and are based on enrollment capacity. Larger child care facilities (with enrollment over 100 children) could be eligible for up to approximately $30,000. Providers who can meet their full capacity will be prioritized, as well as re-start or start-up businesses.

Grants are available to income-eligible families in Spokane County to cover child care tuition, and priority will be given to families paying for school age care because of virtual learning.

The deadline to apply is December 10, 2020. The online application is quick and easy https://community-minded.org/caresactgrant/.  There is also a downloadable version for those who prefer to use a paper application.

Complete details can be found on our website https://community-minded.org/caresactgrant/.

Through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, the CARES Act provides for payments to State, Local, and Tribal governments navigating the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Special thank you to Spokane Alliance for their assistance and efforts in helping to secure funding and distribute grant awards through Spokane County CARES Act
